The Chicago White Sox put starting outfielder Luis Robert on the injured list Tuesday after he reported flu-like symptoms to the team’s medical staff.
The White Sox recalled right-hander Alex McRae from the Schaumburg training facility.
“As a precaution, we are placing Robert on the IL until we receive results from further testing,” Chicago general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. “… Our hope is that his symptoms resolve quickly and that the testing protocols clear him to return to the active roster soon.”
Robert, 23, is hitting .305/.356/.463 with eight doubles, one triple, one home run, six RBIs and 10 runs scored over 21 games this season, his second with the White Sox. He has started every game. He came down with symptoms Monday night.
McRae, 28, was with the White Sox earlier this month but did not pitch.
Earlier Tuesday, the White Sox recalled outfielder Luis Gonzalez from Schaumburg. Gonzalez, 25, takes the roster spot of right-handed pitcher Jonathan Stiever, who was optioned to Schaumburg following Sunday’s game. Gonzalez is 0-for-1 in three games with the White Sox this season.
