KAMPALA, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) — Uganda have been drawn in Group A alongside Nigeria, Cape Verde and Mali in the 2023 FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers.
Uganda coach Mande Juruni told Xinhua that the draw is a tough one because none of their opponents are weak.
“It will not be an easy qualifier, but that is what a World Cup qualifier is all about, because nothing comes easy,” Juruni said.
Group B features South Sudan, Cameroon, Tunisia, and Rwanda. Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, the Central Africa Republic and Angola are in Group C, while Group D has Kenya, Senegal, Egypt, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The two best teams in each group will progress to the next phase and the best five at the end will qualify for the final round of qualification.
The qualifiers are scheduled to start in November and run through to February 2023. The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup will be co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
