LA PAZ, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — Midfielder Fernando Saucedo scored a late equalizer to earn Bolivia a 1-1 draw with Colombia in their FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier here on Thursday.
Roger Martinez gave the visitors the lead in the 69th minute when he dribbled past Roberto Fernandez before slotting an angled shot past goalkeeper Carlos Lampe.
Saucedo put the hosts on level terms seven minutes from time by rifling a 25-yard drive into the top left corner after combining with Juan Arce.
Bolivia were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time following Carmelo Algaranaz’s two yellow cards in as many minutes for bad tackles.
The result at Estadio Hernando Siles, situated more than 3,600 meters above sea level, leaves Colombia with nine points from seven games so far in the South American qualifying group, three points ahead of Bolivia.
The top four teams will book a berth at next year’s World Cup in Qatar while the fifth-ranked side will advance to an intercontinental playoff.
