Rick Privott resigns after seven seasons as Middletown’s boys basketball coach

Privott replaced Dave Sytulek and won 42 games over his first two seasons coaching the Blue Dragons. That included a trip to the Class L state championship game in 2015. Middletown finished 22-4 that season.

Two seasons later, the Blue Dragons went 22-5 and reached the Class L state semifinals before losing to eventual state champion Sacred Heart. Privott finished with an overall record of 105-42.

Privott told middlesexcountysports.com that he and his wife are moving to North Carolina this fall.

“Hopefully they got enough from me and hopefully I’ve done enough that they’ll give the next coach everything they gave to me,” Privott told middlesexcountysports.com. “Whoever the next coach is, is getting a great bunch of kids and student-athletes. They should do great things.”

Privott played on the Middletown teams that won 80 consecutive games between 1976-78, still the state’s longest winning streak in the sport. Privott graduated in 1978.
