Mississippi State women’s basketball adds St. John’s transfer Raven Farley

Nikki McCray-Penson has turned to the NCAA transfer portal once again.

The Mississippi State women’s basketball coach continues to find talent from Group of Five schools, adding St. John’s transfer post player Raven Farley to the Bulldogs’ 2021-22 roster on Thursday.

Farley started all 23 games for the Red Storm this past season, averaging 6.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.3 assists per game. The former five-star recruit from Queen of Peace High School in New Jersey was named a McDonald’s All-American.

She is the fifth transfer the Bulldogs have landed this offseason. Tulane star JerKaila Jordan was the first to join McCray-Penson in Starkville, and Mississippi State also landed Anastasia Hayes and Aislynn Hayes from Middle Tennessee and their sister Alasia Hayes from Notre Dame.

Farley will provide post depth behind rising senior Jessika Carter. Junior Rickea Jackson and freshman Danae Carter are the only other two Bulldogs listed at forward on the team’s 2021-22 roster, with sophomore Charlotte Kohl listed at center.

“I’m really excited about having Raven as a part of our team,” McCray-Penson said in a news release. “She is going to bring depth in the post immediately with her size, strength and athleticism. She has the ability to shoot the 3 as well as pass the ball. She’s very familiar with the SEC. Mississippi State was one of her top schools in high school, so she knows the program and the fanbase well.”

The Bulldogs finished 10-9 (5-7 Southeastern Conference) in McCray-Penson’s first season.
