Cubs manager David Ross set to return Sunday

Chicago Cubs manager David Ross will rejoin his team for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.

The Cubs had been operating under the leadership of bench coach Andy Green.

Ross, along with team president Jed Hoyer, tested positive for the virus on Sept. 3. Neither has experienced symptoms, though, and there have been no reported positive test results since.

“You’re thankful it didn’t,” Green told reporters on Saturday, referring to no additional cases, “but you’re also cognizant of how quickly it can still show up in any clubhouse or any work culture.”

Ross led the Cubs to a 34-26 mark in 2020.

The Cubs, who are 65-77 entering Saturday’s games, were 5-2 in Ross’ absence.
