BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) — The 16-team field for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup has been completed as Chinese Taipei punched the last ticket to Asia’s flagship basketball event.
Chinese Taipei edged off Guam in the double-header qualifier due to a superior points difference.
The other 15 teams to compete in the tournament are Australia, Bahrain, China, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Lebanon, New Zealand, the Philippines, Syria, Saudi Arabia, India and hosts Indonesia, who will play in their first Asia Cup since 2011.
This will also be the second time that Indonesia has hosted the Asia Cup, after first doing so in 1993.
FIBA announced in July that the Asia Cup would be rescheduled to July 2022 after evaluating the planning and organization of its upcoming Asia events in consultation with the FIBA Asia Board.
The date and venue of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup draw will be announced at a later stage.
