Boston Celtics team president Danny Ainge is considering stepping down from the position, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

The Celtics were eliminated from the playoffs in five games by the Brooklyn Nets, who dominated Game 5 of the first-round series on Tuesday.

ESPN reported Ainge was “seriously considering” his future with the franchise he has served as both a player and general manager.

Sports Illustrated reported Ainge would be weighing other opportunities if he leaves Boston.

Ainge, 62, has been at the top of the Celtics’ front office for the past 18 seasons.

He said prior to the playoffs that rumors he had made calls to find his potential replacement were unfounded.

“I have a really good staff of people,” Ainge said in a radio interview with 98.5 FM in Boston. “With Mike Zarren (vice president of basketball operations) and my son, Austin (assistant general manager), Dave Lewin (director of player personnel), Remy Cofied (college scout); those guys have been doing a lot more over the last couple of years. I have been delegating a lot; those guys are very capable.”
