Amid COVID NC basketball seniors improve recruiting with post-graduate years

His apprehension began last summer, built through the fall and peaked this winter as E.J. McArthur sat awake in his Fayetteville home around 3 a.m. in January, pondering his basketball future.

Growing up, the Jack Britt High School senior point guard always saw recruiting in linear terms: Set a foundation in middle school, learn the ropes as a freshman, improve as a sophomore, generate interest as a junior and cap it off with a seamless transition from 12th-grade graduation into a college program.

Now he was deep into that final chapter of his high school career but still in search of a storybook ending, the coronavirus pandemic altering and delaying his recruiting cycle for months. He had limited interest from Division II and Division III schools and little time to seek out much else.
